Chris King

Co-founder

Chris King is the co-founder of Golden Ticket Sports Inc and resides in Lloydminster, Alberta, where he oversees all operations of Hoop Factory. Chris also serves as Head Coach of the Lakeland College Rustlers Women’s Basketball Team, a role he has occupied for 13 years, competing in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC).

In 2019-2020, Chris led the Rustlers to a 19-5 regular season record, good for 2nd in the ACAC North Division. Following regular season play, Chris and the Rustlers would go on a historic run, capturing the program’s first ever ACAC Championship before having their season, and hopes for a National Championship, cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Following the season Chris added to an already crowded trophy case, winning ACAC Coach of the Year for the fourth time in five years. He was also nominated for the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Coach of the Year in 2014-15 and 2015-16.

Chris holds a career coaching record of 160-114 (.584), and has led the Rustlers to the playoffs in 10 consecutive seasons, and has finished with a record above .500 in nine. Since 2016, Rustlers teams under Chris’ leadership have amassed a record of 110-34 (.764), recorded an undefeated season (2015-16), and went 46-2 (.960) from 2014-2016. King has also recruited and coached 19 players named to ACAC All Conference teams, one Rookie of the Year, an ACAC Player of the Year, a CCAA All Canadian, and eight future U Sports players.

Away from Lakeland, Chris has coached with various provincial programs during the summer months. In 2012, he led the Basketball Alberta U16 program to a bronze medal at the Western Canada Championships, and assisted with the U17 program - finishing fourth at the 2013 Canada Summer Games. Chris also worked with Golden Ticket Sports’ other co-founder, Tanner Brightman, in the summer of 2018 with the Basketball Saskatchewan U15 Developmental Program.

With Golden Ticket Sports, Chris is the primary contact for all programs and events at Hoop Factory in Lloydminster and frequently coaches camps and programs there. Though he spends the majority of his on-court hours with the Lakeland Women, Chris also thrives while working with younger age groups and enjoys the opportunity to work with primary and elementary-aged athletes. Residing in Lloydminster, Chris has the unique opportunity to coach alongside his own players, something he has said works to the benefit of not only the athletes at Hoop Factory, but his players and team as well. Regardless of the age group, Chris’ passion and deep understanding for the game of basketball has, and will continue to, benefit all athletes he works with at Hoop Factory or elsewhere.

King grew up in Kitscoty AB and played for two years at Lakeland College under former men’s coach Phil Allen, winning an ACAC silver medal during his stay. After Lakeland, he transferred and played for the Pronghorns at the University of Lethbridge. Chris lives in Lloydminster with his wife Courtney, daughters Macy and Kay, and son Nash.
